Book Club: How to Eat a Cupcake

This week for Book Club Friday I am reviewing How to eat a cupcake by Meg Donohue. I read this book at the very end of August

Summary:

Funny, free-spirited Annie Quintana and sophisticated, ambitious Julia St. Clair come from two different worlds. Yet, as the daughter of the St. Clair’s housekeeper, Annie grew up in Julia’s San Francisco mansion and they forged a bond that only two little girls who know nothing of class differences and scholarships could—until a life-altering betrayal destroyed their friendship.

A decade later, Annie is now a talented, if underpaid, pastry chef who bakes to fill the void left in her heart by her mother’s death. Julia, a successful businesswoman, is tormented by a painful secret that could jeopardize her engagement to the man she loves. When a chance reunion prompts the unlikely duo to open a cupcakery, they must overcome past hurts and a mysterious saboteur or risk losing their fledgling business and any chance of healing their fractured friendship.

Good reads

Review:
Warning this book will make you want to eat at least one cupcake. The book is centered around the relationship between Annie and Julia. My favorite thing about the book was how girls came together after so long and how despite all of the changes in their lives were still basically the same people. This was furthered along by the rich backstory of the past the was routed in mystery and surprising twists and turns. I also loved all the unique cupcake flavors throughout the book. All of them sounded delicious and like they fit right in at any hip cupcake bakery. I also liked that the book takes place in San Francisco. While it is so close to my home I still loving reading books about how others see the area and the interesting ways people use it to create their stories.

This book is a great mix of light, fun, and sweet with just a little dash of suspense to keep you guessing. I would recommend to anyone who likes fun chick lit.

  1. I've heard great things about this one, so I'm not too surprised you enjoyed it as well. Of course I haven't read it myself, but I do think I'd really enjoy it.
